After the marvellous 'Basement Takes From Textilgatan 7' released earlier this year I was hotly anticipating Irya's debut album. I was overjoyed to hear the new album. I'm glad for a number of reasons. Firstly Irya is a wonderfully talented, gorgeous young lady with a beautiful voice. Secondly and most importantly she has the most rare of gifts. She can sing songs that are romantic without making them sounds cheesy or girly.
Her album really is her Playground. It's like steeping into her world for an hour. There's songs about travelling, love, dreams aspirations, heartbreak, fantasies, folk and city life.
One of my favourites has to be 'Room 54'. It's a real indie song that has lot's and lot's of crossover potential. I'm not going to make the obvious comparisons with her fellow famous countrymen and women (she's Swedish by the way) but this girl is a star in the making. I'm sure it won't belong before she really breaks through.
I wish she was touring in the UK right now because I want to see her live. If you are lucky enough to be in Sweden right now you can see her touring from 5th November. Hopefully she will embark on a European tour soon.
So going back to the album. Sometimes you can really pick up on a few songs and talk about them. With this project I get the feeling that the whole overall feeling is more important than the individual songs. It certainly evoked a reaction in me and I know that it will certainly be inspirational for a lot of people this year too. Irya's Playground really is quite simply a stunning debut album. She may not be proud of all the things she's done but she should definitely be proud of this!

Congratulations on winning the Fame Games Track of the Week!
This is a highly effective, cool and ´´vibey´´ pop track. It´s got a very relaxed mood but it´s also full of energy - an interesting and compelling combination! A refreshingly simple but at the same time powerful pop production with some interesting hints of 70´s New Age Punk Rock. Chilled, yet quite danceable and highly memorable, we´re definitely looking at a song with a strong commercial edge. Very appealing vocally, and well designed. Everything is very well done here and it´s bound to do well. The track is great and your previous victory was well deserved! A great song and a worthy winner this week! We´re looking forward to more music from Irya. If this song is anything to go by, she´s a powerhouse.

This blog will be dedicated to all you music lovers out there.
Each week I will post a blog about an artist I have come across and who has blown me away.
This week for the first entry, I am travelling all the way to Sweden to tell you about Irya Gmeyner ( http://www.myspace.com/iryasplayground) & (http://iryasplayground.com/).
She started off in a band called Urga which musical genre was closer to punk & ska though you could already hear some pop melodies. (http://www.myspace.com/urgamusic)
Now her musical genre is more pop rock. The melodies are enchanting, the lyrics beautiful. The whole project is very catchy!
She has recorded her first EP with some of the best swedish musicians (from T.S.O.O.L to weeping willows), mixed by Mr Lundberg himself from Soundtrack of our lives (a few years ago, Noel Gallagher supported this band as being one of the best of our times).
So you can all imagine the quality of this first EP.
All that is left to say, is go and listen, buy, download, stream whatever you like doing, but go check her out!

Jag är helt hänförd. Det här var nog det mest fantastiska jag någonsin har sett, och dessa människors förmåga att använda sig av sina graciösa kroppar i samband med en otroligt bra musik framförd live av Iryas Playground gav mig en sån härlig "feel-good-känsla".
Om jag kunde ge föreställningen Inside Out mer än en femma skulle den få det.
Man fick sig en tankeställare om livet, och hur skört allt kan vara, och hur fantastiskt allt kan vara samtidigt.
Nu måste jag plocka fram allt det fantastiska, och andas, njuta av mitt hjärtas slag, njuta av varje sekund som jag har här i mitt liv. Jag har bara ett. Och det ska jag vårda.
Jag vill se denna fantastiska föreställning igen, den går på Dansens hus fram till 27 januari...

Jag ska få uppleva det igen!! Som fick mig att skratta, som fick mig att gråta. Som fick mig att upptäcka Irya's Playground.
Det är helt fanttastiskt. Jag är så otroligt lycklig nu. De har släppt nya biljetter till den underbara föreställningen "Inside Out" (Cirkus Cirkör) på Dansens hus. Den som jag såg för några veckor sedan som berörde mig ända in i hjärtat. Som släppte ut känslor jag inte riktigt vågat släppa ut på ett tag. Som fick mig att fundera över stora och små frågor. Som fick mig att skratta, som fick mig att gråta. Som fick mig att upptäcka Irya's Playground.
Jag ska gå och se den igen. I augusti. Det kommer att bli en magisk kväll.

For those who have been following Irya Gmeyner, Irya's Playground is more then a gift from heaven! We hear and hear and still we love it! The songs are really good! And its hard to write what we feel when listen to these songs. Here we have one of the best performers of our time, still unknown for the major audience. These near perfection complicity between Irya and Pange Öberg and the other musicians resulted in one of the best pop/alternative albums in this decade, for sure. Congrats!!

Irya Gmeyner - My Angel

Irya Gmeyner's song "My Angel" has been bouncing around on my MP3 player since around October last year. It's a tricky one, I haven't been able to make my mind up about it. There is no doubt that she is a talented songwriter, has a killer band and a really interesting voice (I keep thinking it reminds me of Nico and the Velvets meets Blondie).
What I now find amusing is that while I have been dithering about whether or not I like the song, she has gone an released an EP of arguably better songs, that'll teach me to not be a bit more decisive.
"The Basement Takes From Textilgatan 7″ is a pun between Bob Dylans world and the basement in Stockholm where we actually recorded the songs.
Most of the songs are taken from the very first demo sessions. We kept everything that we thought had the right expression and feeling and then we played around with it and added sounds and what we thought was necessary for the song.
Head over to her MySpace site at www.myspace.com/iryamusic and listen to "I Know What I Want" it's a nice piece of pop production, the guitar drives it along and the electronics provide a suitably European atmosphere. I really am a sucker for this stuff.

En cirkus med hjärta!

Den sköna live-musiken från Irya's Playground samspelar perfekt med scenens alla visuella intryck och magi i ordets allra bästa bemärkelse skapas.
Jag och K var på cirkus i lördags. Fantastiskt! En "larger than life experience", där publiken aldrig ville sluta applådera och både jag och K hade tårar i ögonen och ryste av välbehag ända in i märgen... Föreställningen heter Inside Out och cirkusgruppen är det stjärnskott som synts på nycirkushimlen sedan 1995, Cirkus Cirkör.
Allt är så himla väl koreograferat och scenograferat och det händer så mycket på scenen hela tiden att det ser ut som om det "bara" är livet som leker med sig sjävt i ett spontant flöde. Och dessa kroppar! Föreställningen är på temat kroppen. Fullständigt enastående akrobatik och jongleringskonst kombineras med humor och hjärta när temat gestaltas på allehanda kreativa, medryckande och häpnadsväckande sätt.
En favorit (bland hundra) är när "Jeanette" i början av föreställningen bjuds upp "från publiken" och vi får se hur någons händer plötsligt dyker in i hennes rygg och kommer ut ur bröstet där hennes hjärta bör finnas... Jag gapar och ögonen är runda som på en fyraåring! :-)
Precis som i verkliga livet har man ingen aning om vad som ska komma att hända härnäst. Den sköna live-musiken från Irya's Playground samspelar perfekt med scenens alla visuella intryck och magi i ordets allra bästa bemärkelse skapas.
Cirkustraditionens hela magiska register spelas upp inför publikens ögon och när vi går ut på gatan efteråt gungar asfalten rejält under fötterna och jag känner mig lycklig och obeskrivbart levande långt in i hjärteroten. Ett barn på andra sidan gatan med en blinkande plaststav och ett bubblande, smittande skratt, tycks vara beviset för att cirkusens hjärta inte är skilt från själva livets hjärta...

How can one die while still alive? What can bring us back to life?
Brilliant performance from Cirkus Cirkör featuring Irya's Playground at Dansens Hus in Stockholm. I saw it as a homage to circus as a form of art and creative self-expression and a journey of self-discovery and re-connection with ourselves. It is about taking risks in life and the courage to let go of the heart and time after time choose to offer it to others in the generous way.
In the process our hearts expand and get stronger.
Great show for the whole family! Don't miss it!

Allt ackompanjerat av ett liveband som verkligen knäckte.
I går kväll hade jag möjlighet att för en gångs skull utnyttja lite av huvudstadens kulturliv. Vi var och såg cirkus cirkör på dansens hus. En fantastisk föreställning som är både dans, teater, akrobatik och andra cirkuskonster. Allt ackompanjerat av ett liveband som verkligen knäckte.

Musik som jag blev alldeles kär i, Irya's Playground
Jag och Henni var ju och såg Inside Out med Cirkus cirkör igår, på dansens hus. Och det var fantastiskt bra. Det är något verkligt magiskt över hur just cirkus kan blanda allvar och lek på ett sätt så att man inte vet om man ska skratta eller gråta.
Nej men föreställningen var verkligen helt komplett, både de klassiska cirkustricken, akrobatik och magi så att man sitter där med andan i halsen, fantastisk scenografi, ett alldeles lagom tydligt budskap och musik som jag blev alldeles kär i, Irya's Playground (spotify-länk, men om ni är små töntar utan spotify så kan ni ju alltid kolla myspace istället)
I alla fall, jag brukar ofta finna just dans, akrobatik och liknande aningen långtråkigt… Men här ville jag bara se mer.

Musik som spelas ofta, högt och gärna just nu.... Är inne i en period där den musiken passar in. Irya Gmeyner är en annan fantastisk sångerska med speciellt sound.
Sitter på balkongen i min nyinköpta sidenpyjamas, solnedgång över Åsunden, magen mätt efter grill, kroppen lite trött efter tennis, huvudet i tankar. David Gray sjunger Sail Away, en fin låt. Itunes - en bra uppfinning - bra musik vart man än är. Har sviftat till Irya igen, (give me a spare hour) hela plattan Irya Playground är bra, hörde henne på Cirkus Cirkör, grymt sound.
